Toronto Blue Jays sign international free agent right-handed pitcher

The Blue Jays just signed an international free agent in left-handed pitcher Mason Olson earlier in the week to a minor league deal.

The Blue Jays have spent a lot of time this season looking to improve their farm system that has been ranked as one of the worst in the league over the last few seasons.

The Blue Jays announced that they have once again signed a young pitcher, Roberto Castallanos to a minor league deal and have assigned him to the Dominican Summer League Blue Jays red.

This move comes as a bit of a surprise because almost ever young player that the Blue Jays have signed this season have been pitchers. They don't seem to be drafting or signing as many position players these days.

Earlier in the season, catcher Tyler Heineman went down with a concussion and the Blue Jays barely had anyone to replace him, because they have so little depth at that position.

Fans are happy to see the Blue Jays add pitching depth but they also need to look at bringing in other young position player prospects.

There is not a lot known about Castallanos apart from the fact that he is 18 years old, 6'0 tall and weighed in at a slim 150 lbs.

Hopefully he will prove himself in the Dominican Summer League.
