The Toronto Blue Jays made their first February transaction.
According to Alden Gonzalez of ESPN, the Blue Jays have signed left-handed pitcher Josh Fleming to a minor league contract. The deal comes with an invite to Spring Training.
Blue Jays, Josh Fleming Agree To Minor League Deal
Fleming 29, has spent most of his career in the AL East after being a fifth round draft pick in 2017 by the Tampa Bay Rays.
Fleming has experience in both the rotation and the bullpen, though has been more used as a reliever in recent years, with the occasional spot start.
He had mixed results with the Rays after making his debut in 2020.
In years seasons with Tampa, Fleming went 19-13 with a 4.88 ERA in 55 games, including 22 starts.
He appeared in 25 games for the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2024 before regressing a bit in 2025, which he ultimately spent in Triple-A with the Seattle Mariners organization.
Still, Fleming has the ability to throw strikes and is a ground ball pitcher while pitching to contact.
Fleming likely to begin season as depth option at Triple-A
While he has an outside shot at making the opening day roster, Fleming will likely begin the season at Triple-A, where he could be used in a variety of roles including a hybrid starter/long relief type of player.
If injuries befall Canada's team, he could find himself on the roster sooner rather than later.
