What is going on with Bo Bichette and the New York Mets?
A viral clip of Bo Bichette sitting alone in the dugout, visibly dejected, has come to symbolize the difficult start both he and the New York Mets are enduring in the 2026 season.
Any momentum the Mets hoped to build after snapping a 12-game losing streak and briefly winning two in a row (before dropping Friday’s game) quickly disappeared on Sunday.
Over the course of a grueling doubleheader at Citi Field, the team managed just one run across 18 innings, getting swept by the struggling Colorado Rockies.
The sweep was sealed with a 3–0 loss in the nightcap, following a 3–1 defeat in the opener. Now sitting at 9–19, the Mets rank last in Major League Baseball, averaging only 3.17 runs per game.
After the game, Bichette was seen sitting by himself in the dugout, his body language reflecting the team’s struggles.
The video quickly spread online, reinforcing the sense of frustration surrounding both the player and the club.

Bichette has already experienced the intensity of New York’s fanbase.
In just his third game with the Mets back in March, Bichette was met with a chorus of boos, an early indication of the pressure that comes with playing in Queens.
So far, Mets fans have seen a very different version of Bichette compared to the player who starred for the Blue Jays.
After collecting 181 hits in 139 games during the 2025 season in Toronto, he has struggled to find that same rhythm in his first 28 games with New York.
Bichette's underlying numbers tell a similar story
Bichette’s hard-hit rate has dropped by 7.2 percent, while his barrel rate is down 5.3 percent. At the same time, his strikeout rate has climbed to its highest level since his rookie campaign in 2019.
Through more than 100 at-bats this season, he’s hitting .233 with a bWAR of -0.3, along with one home run, 27 hits, and 12 RBIs.
While his production at the plate has been underwhelming, Bichette’s transition to third base has been relatively steady.
In just over 210 innings at the position, he has committed two errors and graded out around league average defensively, albeit in a limited sample.
He has also recently split time between third base and shortstop due to injuries to Francisco Lindor.
Although he has held his own in the field, the combined pressure of adapting to multiple positions and performing under the spotlight in New York may be taking a toll, raising questions about whether the move has been as rewarding as anticipated.
