When the Toronto Blue Jays officially announce who will succeed Buck Martinez in the broadcast booth, the individual will have big shoes to fill alongside Dan Shulman.

Buck Martinez’s decision to retire from broadcasting leaves a significant void.
For decades, his voice became synonymous with Toronto Blue Jays baseball and summer evenings across Canada, making the task of replacing him no small challenge.
The organization does have an obvious internal candidate in Joe Siddall.
Still, if Rogers Sportsnet chooses to think creatively, there are several other familiar faces who could be considered for the role.
Here’s a closer look at some in-house options.

Joe Siddall

Joe Siddall appears to be the frontrunner. He brings 12 years of experience with Sportsnet and is already a familiar presence to Blue Jays viewers.
Siddall spent four seasons working on radio broadcasts before transitioning to television in 2018, joining Blue Jays Central alongside Jamie Campbell.
Fans also know him well from his frequent appearances next to Dan Shulman, where he filled in for Martinez during health-related absences or scheduled time off over the past two seasons.
Before his broadcasting career, Siddall played 13 professional seasons as a catcher, beginning with the Montreal Expos and later spending time with the Marlins, Tigers, and Red Sox.
Portions of four of those seasons were at the Major League level.
A Windsor, Ontario native, Siddall’s athletic journey took an unconventional path.
He initially accepted a football scholarship to Central Michigan as a quarterback before ultimately committing to baseball.

Caleb Joseph

Caleb Joseph joined Sportsnet in 2022 and has quickly established himself as a versatile analyst across both radio and television broadcasts.
More recently, he’s taken on a hybrid role during the postseason, contributing on-field and sideline coverage alongside Hazel Mae.
Joseph’s most memorable on-field moment came in 2014 with the Baltimore Orioles.
Thrust into a larger role after Matt Wieters was sidelined following Tommy John surgery, Joseph caught fire in August, homering in five straight games and briefly becoming one of the hottest hitters in baseball.
A Nashville native, Joseph’s Major League career spanned three organizations, beginning in Baltimore before stops in Arizona and concluding with the Blue Jays.

Kevin Barker

Kevin Barker brings a strong mix of playing experience and broadcasting familiarity.
A former Major Leaguer, Barker currently co-hosts Blair and Barker on Sportsnet, where he covers the Blue Jays and the broader baseball landscape.
Barker joined Sportsnet after the departure of Gregg Zaun. A first baseman and designated hitter, he was selected by the Milwaukee Brewers in the third round of the 1996 MLB Draft.
Early on, the Brewers envisioned him as their long-term solution at first base before the emergence of Richie Sexson altered those plans.
Barker went on to play for four Major League teams—the Brewers, Padres, Blue Jays, and Reds—before finishing his professional career with two seasons in the Mexican League.
He also spent a handful of games in the booth with Shulman last season, gaining valuable broadcast experience.
A native of Virginia, Barker now resides in Toronto and is married to longtime Sportsnet sideline reporter Hazel Mae.
Whoever ultimately takes over Buck Martinez’s seat next to Dan Shulman will inherit enormous expectations.
Martinez’s legacy as the voice of Blue Jays baseball and a fixture of Canadian summers is unmatched—and his presence in the booth will be remembered for generations.
