Heading into the 2025, many fans and analyst felt that John Schneider might be on a short leash as manager. With the Blue Jays off to a 13-16 start, having last eight out of their last nine, those calls are only increasing. However, according to Toronto baseball writer Mike Wilner, Schneider is not the one too blame.

First it was the playoff collapse of 2022. Then it was failing to win in 2023 and not reaching the playoffs at all in 2024. More recently it was allowing Kevin Gausman to throw 53 pitches in an inning on Sunday. The frustration makes sense. But there is a bigger picture at play.
While its true that Schneider is responsible for the day-to-day decisions of the team, he is also not the one that put the pieces together, giving out massive contracts to Anthony Santander and George Springer. He is not the one that went 9-90 in Houston or who is averaging 2.2 runs over the last ten games.
Yes, should he have done some things different? Absolutely. But as we have seen one month into this season, a coaching overhaul can't necessarily make players hit.

Change may be coming for the Blue Jays, but let's not place all the blame on the manager. The people most responsible for assembling a team are those in the front office. If fans want change, maybe they should start there.
