The Polar Bear is coming to the American League East.

News just broke that the Baltimore Orioles have signed free agent first baseman Pete Alonso to a five year-year deal worth $155MM.
The deal is an agreement, pending a physical.
ESPN's Jeff Passan was the first to report on the deal, while Joel Sherman, Christ Cotillo, and Andy Kostka also added varying amounts of information.
BREAKING: First baseman Pete Alonso and the Baltimore Orioles are finalizing a five-year, $155 million contract, sources tell ESPN. Alonso leaves the Mets to make a loaded AL East even better.
Cotillo was the first to report that the deal doesn't contain any deferred money, while Kostka noted that Alonso also receives a limited no-trade clause as part of the deal.
There was much speculation where Alonso would land this offseason, after opting out of his three-year deal he signed with the New York Mets around this time last year. While a return to Queens was always a possibility, it had been reported that the Mets were unwilling to go beyond three years.
There is no deferred money in the Pete Alonso contract with the Orioles, per source
It's been a rough offseason already for Mets fans. The team traded away fan favourite Brandon Nimmo, while popular closer Edwin Diaz signed a mega five-year deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The Toronto Blue Jays also had their dalliance with Alonso. Around this time last year, before the Polar Bear had re-signed with New York and before the Blue Jays reached a record-setting contract extension with Vladimir Guerrero Jr., the Blue Jays and Alonso were reportedly in talks, and there were varying degrees of what the Blue Jays offered.
Now, he will be one of Toronto's biggest opponents as he comes to their division.

Alonso met with at least two teams

It was known that Alonso met in-person with both the Orioles and the Boston Red Sox two teams that were in need of a first baseman/designated hitter.
While it is unknown if Boston had made Alonso an offer, he clearly was impressed enough by Baltimore to make the move.
