First it was Mookie Betts. Now, it's Mike Trout. The Angels right fielder find himself at the centre of unwanted attention after a fan pulled a foul out of his glove during Saturday's game against the Houston Astros.
Unlike the play involving Betts however, no out was ruled on the play and cooler heads ultimately prevailed.
In Betts' case, he had caught the ball while it was still in the field of play, before it was forcefully ripped from his glove by two Yankee fans. The two were later banned from all 30 stadiums by MLB.
As for Trout, his glove crossed over the fence as the ball left the field of play, which would give the fan the right of way. Although Trout and the Angels asked for a review, the call was upheld. No interference was called and not out was recorded.
For his part the fan, who was wearing an Astros jersey was apologetic and claimed he reached over to protect his child. While it was initially speculated that the fan was ejected, he was simply moved to a different area.
Once the madness died down, Trout seemed relaxed and calm about the whole situation, acknowledging that the fan was in the right and that no catch was made. According to Angels beat writer
Sam Blum, Trout met with the father and son after the game and even signed a couple of souvenirs, including the baseball they once fought over.
While Trout isn't the player he once was, his actions prove that he is still a class and that and the end of the day baseball is just a game. Although the two fans were sporting Astros jerseys, Trout, who seems to transcend team loyalties, gave the two a day they will never forget.
