It appears Trevor Bauer is taking his talents to the Long Island Ducks.
Former Cy Young Award winner Trevor Bauer is taking the next step in his professional baseball journey.
Bauer, 35, has signed with the Long Island Ducks of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball (ALPB), the team announced Thursday, April 2.
He is set to start on opening night against the Hagerstown Flying Boxcars on April 21 at Fairfield Properties Ballpark in Central Islip, New York.
“We are excited to welcome Trevor to Long Island,” Ducks President/CBO Michael Pfaff said in a news release. “His talent and knowledge will be important additions to our ballclub, and we are happy to offer him this opportunity to showcase his talents to MLB clubs while giving fans unprecedented access to Ducks baseball.”
In addition to pitching, Bauer will contribute to the Ducks’ media efforts.
Bauer will be “mic’d up” during games and practices to generate content for the team’s social media and streaming channels, giving fans a unique behind-the-scenes perspective.
Bauer himself later announced the signing on X, saying that he looks forward to playing on U.S. soil again, and joining the Ducks long tradition of developing MLB players who have played there before him.
Bauer looking to get exposure on American soil
Bauer brings 15 years of professional baseball experience to Long Island, including a decade in Major League Baseball.
He has played for the Arizona Diamondbacks, Cleveland Indians (now Guardians), Cincinnati Reds, and Los Angeles Dodgers.
Selected as the No. 3 overall pick in the 2011 MLB Draft by Arizona, Bauer made his major league debut in 2012.
He earned an AL All-Star nod in 2018 while with Cleveland and had his standout season in 2020 with the Reds, posting a 1.73 ERA, allowing just 41 hits, and striking out 100 batters in 73 innings, performance that earned him the National League Cy Young Award.
Over 10 MLB seasons, Bauer compiled 83 wins across 212 starts.
Bauer’s career faced setbacks when he was released by the Dodgers in January 2023 following a 194-game suspension for violating MLB’s domestic and child abuse policy.
He was never criminally charged, and all civil claims were ultimately resolved.
Before joining the Ducks, Bauer spent the last three seasons pitching internationally in Japan and Mexico.
