Major League Baseball is reportedly looking into the possibility of licensing their streaming platform MLB TV. Per Andrew Marchant of The Athletic, the league has discussed its options with other broadcasters, but it is unclear what any hypothetical deal would look like.

The move would make sense, especially since the league is gradually moving away from terrestrial platforms and regional sports networks, as live sports become one of the last cable staples to fall victim to a streaming platform.
The timing would be right for the league as well. MLB mutually opted out of their broadcasting contract with ESPN, and their deals with box Fox and Turner expire in 2028.
Things aren't always that straightforward though. Many clubs and broadcasters have their own direct to consumer option.
Licensing MLB TV could also benefit Blue Jays as well. For years, MLB TV has had local blackout rules in effect. Oddly for Toronto, their market is considered all of Canada, which does affect the availability of games at times.
The league has started to adapt and expand in recent years, particularly with their Friday Night Baseball agreement with with Apple TV. MLB is also looking at other platforms such as Disney, Roku, Peacock, Amazon, and even Netflix, all of which were present at the 2024 World Series.
There isn't necessarily going to be one simple solution and it isn't going to happen overnight. Businesses can often be slow to adapt, especially when they have many local subsidiaries. Still, any licensing agreement would be a great revenue booster for the league.
