Roki Sasaki has had a rough start to his major league career. Now, fans are calling for him to be demoted after his second bad outing in a row.
Through two starts Sasaki has pitched just 4.2 innings while allowing three runs and walking nine. It's that last number that has to be a concern for the Los Angeles Dodgers and manager Dave Roberts.
Also, Sasaki doesn't seem to be handling the criticism very well. After being pulled in his latest outing, Sasaki appeared to be on the verge of tears. It has sparked mixed reactions online with many saying the rookie should man up, while others are defending him for showing emotion.
Former major league catcher Jonathan Lucroy was one of the people to call him out online.
"He's soft. I've seen it before. Only thing that will help him is to fail. Massively. He will either peter out, or, transform into a hardened warrior. That will be his choice. Big time players make big time plays in big time situations." - Jonathan Lucroy
Sasaki's lack of success so far in his career may give some Blue Jays fans a case schadenfreude. The Blue Jays were famously finalists for Sasaki services this offseason, even going so far as to trade for more international bonus pool money - and Myles Straw - before the coveted pitcher chose Los Angeles.
And while two starts is hardly indicative of future success, or in this case lack thereof, many Blue Jays fans are thinking they probably dodged a bullet.
In spite of Sasaki's rough start, the Dodgers are still 5-0 to start the season.
