Hyde,
who was fired by the Orioles in May after parts of seven seasons as manager, had been rumoured to be joining the Rays for roughly a week, ever since word emerged that the two sides were in talks at the end of November.
Former #Orioles skipper joins #Rays organization:
In his new role with the Rays, Hyde will work with both the major league club as well as oversee various minor league affiliates.
Hyde had a mixed record during his time leading the Orioles, though judging a manager solely by his win and loss record is a rather pointless exercise.
Hyde was 421-491 as manager of the Orioles, but also took Baltimore to the postseason twice, including after having won 101 games in 2023, a season in which Hyde also took home Manager of the Year honours.
However, in both playoff appearances under Hyde's watch, the Orioles were swept out of the postseason.
Hyde has years of minor league and major league experience
Prior to his time managing the Orioles Hyde spent five seasons as bench coach for the
Chicago Cubs, and two seasons as bench coach for the
Miami Marlins, even filling in as a manager for single game.
Prior to that, he spent several years coaching in the Marlins system.
This is his first Front office job.
