Former Kansas City Royals outfielder and renowned pinch-running specialist Terrance Gore passed away Friday at the age of 34.
In a post shared on social media, Gore’s wife, Britney, revealed that his death was unexpected and occurred following what was believed to be a routine surgical procedure.
"This post is extremely tough to write.
Last night, I lost my best friend/husband from complications after what was supposed to have been a simple procedure. Our hearts are shattered, my babies are shattered. Our whole family is lost. This was so unexpected. Everything Zane does is centered around his dad. Baseball, hunting, fishing. Skylyn said “i dont have a daddy anymore,he’s up in heaven in the stars”. I don’t know where to go from here. I feel like I’m living my biggest nightmare and feel so lost. He loved his children with everything in him. He loved coaching the youth and those boys absolutely loved him. Please keep our family in your prayers for the coming days and for the strength to get through this. Life is precious and is too short. What I would do to give you one more hug or kiss. We had so many more memories to make 🙏🏼 I love you forever Terrance Gore and I’ll continue to watch over our babies."

Across eight Major League seasons, Gore put together one of the most unconventional careers in modern baseball.
He appeared in 112 big league games but started just 14 of them, logging only 85 plate appearances while being used almost exclusively as a late-game pinch runner.
While Gore was never known for his bat — finishing his MLB career with a .216/.310/.270 slash line — he earned his place through elite speed and dependable defense.
That speed translated into major value on the basepaths, where he stole 43 bases in 52 attempts and scored 33 runs.
Defensively, Gore proved capable across all three outfield spots, recording +2 Defensive Runs Saved and +6 Outs Above Average over 188 1/3 career regular-season innings.
Drafted by Kansas City in the 20th round of the 2011 MLB Draft, Gore spent five of his eight seasons with the Royals.
His most extended offensive opportunity came during the 2019 season, when he posted a .275/.362/.353 line over 58 plate appearances.
Gore was part of Kansas City’s pennant-winning teams in 2014 and 2015, contributing on the bases during the postseason by stealing four bags in five attempts across eight playoff games.
Terrance Gore, gone way too soon, had wings from the very start. RIP, King.
The Royals’ 2015 championship marked the first of three World Series titles for Gore, who later earned rings with the 2020 Dodgers and 2021 Braves.
Late in his career, Gore became a sought-after depth piece for contenders hoping to gain an edge on the basepaths, spending time with the Cubs, Yankees, Dodgers, Braves, and Mets.
He appeared in two regular-season games for the 2020 Dodgers but did not see postseason action, then spent the entire 2021 regular season in Atlanta’s minor league system before joining the Braves’ NLDS roster.
We at Blue Jays Central extend our deepest condolences to Terrance Gore’s family, friends, and loved ones.
