Some feel-good news for your Tuesday evening baseball feed. Young Los Angeles Dodgers superfan Poppy lost everything in the LA Fires, including her prized photo of catcher Will Smith. Well Smith and the Dodgers heard about it and decided to help her re-start her collection.
Smith replaced the photo and even signed it for her, along with a signed jersey. He also invited her out to opening day at Dodger stadium. She was also seen in a video on Instagram swinging one of Smith's bats around.
The LA fires devasted both the state of California as well as the greater Los Angeles Area. Many MLBers and Dodgers players such as Freddie Freeman banded together to give back to the community.
Smith is a key part of the Dodgers present and future, having sign a 10 year, $140MM contract extension in March of last year. Making his debut with the team in 2019, he has been a part of both World Series-winning teams in 2020 and 2024.
In a post to Instagram by the page
fanatics, Poppy is seen decked out in Dodger blue cheering for her favourite team as well as repeatedly calling out Smith's name, chanting "Willy! Willy".
The youngster was then grinning from ear-to-ear in a photo with her mom at the stadium.
Baseball players have always have always been charitable, and many take time before every game to chat with fans, especially the young ones.
Hopefully Smith's gesture will help Poppy re-grow her collection. What it will do ill leave lasting memories, and further solidify his status as Poppy's favourite player.
A job well done Mr. Smith
