Former Blue Jay' Rowdy Tellez fat shamed during interview in Texas, host called him 'Girthquake' and more

A few weeks ago, former Toronto Blue Jays first baseman Rowdy Tellez, one of the newest Texas Rangers, went on 105.3 The Fan's GBAG Nation show for an introductory interview on the team's official radio station. It didn't go too smoothly.
The 105.3 The Fan crew honed in on Tellez's size, he's listed at 6'4", 270 pounds and asked him how many brisket sandwiches he had eaten since coming to Texas.
They also referred to him as the "Girthquake or something stupid," according to Tellez, who got asked about the interview while appearing on the national baseball podcast Foul Territory on Tuesday.
"I did a radio show when I got here, and they basically told me I was fat," Tellez told Foul Territory. "They tried to be funny and they're not. They're just not funny. I just went full emotionless person and was like, 'Hey guys, that was pretty stupid,' so I'll just leave it at that."
Rowdy Tellez was not thrilled with their questions about the subject
They were like 'hey, yeah, if you could eat anything here what would it be?' And I was like 'I don't know, whatever.' And they were like 'Have you ever had food here?' And I was like 'Yeah, I have, believe it or not I live here.'
And they were like 'oh, you've eaten.' So they called me the Girthquake, or something stupid.»
The Foul Territory host Tellez was on with asked him if he felt «they took it too far, there?»
«They tried to be funny and they're not. They're just not funny. So, I just went full emotionless person, and just said 'hey guys, that was pretty stupid.' So, we'll just leave it at that.»
Tellez, for what it's worth, has been a solid contributor for the Rangers since signing as a free agent this summer.
In 17 games, he's hitting .268 with a .488 slugging percentage.
His pair of homers have included one that tied the game Monday night in the ninth inning has made him a solid contributor so far for the Rangers.
Tellez and the Texas Rangers will be at Rogers Centre Friday night to take on his former club. First pitch is at 7:07 PM ET on Sportsnet.
