While Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was no doubt the man of the hour at the Blue Jays press conference earlier today, there was another figure who got a surprisingly large amount of attention, with many questions directed his way: Blue Jays chairman and principal owner Edward Rogers III.

In his opening remarks, Rogers called the signing " a historic deal for Canada"
It's something we wanted to do from the very start, um, they're complex things, and Vlad, I appreciate you and your team in getting this done. It's a historic deal for Canada. - Blue Jays Chairman Edward Rogers
Since buying the Blue Jays 25 years ago, Rogers Communications has been largely hands-off when it comes to baseball-related matters. However, they have taken a slightly more active role in recent years, investing over $400MM in upgrades and renovations to Rogers Centre.
When asked how involved ownership was in extension talks with Guerrero Rogers stated that while he trusts Mark Shapiro and Ross Atkins to lead negotiations, ownership is always involved when there is this kind of money being discussed.
Rogers is also no slouch when it comes to this aspect of his business. When asked why it was the right move for Rogers at this time, he plainly stated that it was the right move for the Jays. He also praised Vladdy as a person.
It was the right move for the Jays and that's how we looked at it... We also considered him family, and wanted him to stay right from the start.
Clearly Rogers understands what Vladdy means to the team, the city, and the country. Now, there is just one thing left to do. When asked what a successful return of investment on this deal would like Rogers answer was simple and straightforward...
A World Series Championship coming back to Toronto.
With Vladdy wrapped up, the Blue Jays can now make that happen.
