Addison Barger just did something not seen for 45 years

Still, the didn't stop John Schneider and the Blue Jays from summoning hime on Tuesday. He;s played in all three games since and is making his case to stay on the roster once Daulton Varsho returns.

The main reason? His powerful throwing arm.

Barger's strength was on full display in Friday's game against the Seattle Mariners doing something that hadn't been accomplished since 1979. He got three outfield assists.

Barger, playing right field, threw a bullet to 2nd base to gun down Cal Raleigh in the fourth. Later, he threw a strike to Will Wagner to nab Rowdy Tellez at third.

Barger was also given credit for an assist when Randy Arozarena was caught in a rundown being third and home, as he made the initial throw to Bo Bichette.

Barger is just the third Blue Jays player to record three outfield assists in one game. He joins Steve Bowling, who did it in 1977, and Rick Bosetti, who accomplished the feat in 1979.

The Blue Jays have strong outfield, which will only get better when Varsho returns later this month. While Barger is a candidate to be sent back down, he is making a very strong case that he deserves to stay on this roster.

The last major league player to get three outfield assists in one game was Mark Canha, who accomplished the feat on July 22, 2023.

The MLB record for assists in a game is four. It has happened seven times in the modern era. The last player to do so was Wally Berger in 1931.
