There have been more than 23,000 men to play in a baseball game. Less than 5% reach 10 years of service time. On Friday, Blue Jays reliever Yimi Garcia added to that number. The beloved set-up man reached the key mark for any player.

Not only is 10 years a nice round number, but it also has crucial financial benefits.
Service time is counted as any day a player spends on a 26-man roster or the major league injured list. Each MLB season typically contains 187 days and a player reaches one year upon completing 172 of those days.
While there are other milestones, such as arbitration eligibility and super two status, the ten year mark is key as that is when the player's full pension kicks in.
Garcia broke in with the Dodgers in 2014 and played parts of his first five seasons in Los Angeles. Just prior to 2020, he signed with the Marlins and was traded to Houston in 2021. He signed with the Blue Jays that offseason and remained with them until his trade to Seattle at the deadline last year.
He re-joined Toronto on a two-year deal in December.
The milestone didn't go unnoticed by his teammates, who celebrated the feat after batting practice Friday.
«I think it's really cool to be recognized by his teammates. For one, it's hard to do, Kevin (Gausman) mentioned that it's over 400 innings in the bullpen, that's hard to do.

It's cool to celebrate, he's such a gentle giant, pretty quiet and reserved. We get to see the guy who is intimidating on the mound, striking guys out, but it's cool to recognize guys who don't get a light show coming in guys enjoyed recognizing him today." - John Schneider

Kevin Gausman, along with George Springer, also recently celebrated 10 years.
