He helped turn a Guards team around when they looked to be out of it at the trade deadline in 2025.
A ten-game losing streak dropped them as low as eight games under .500 shortly before the All-Star Break, and they trailed Detroit by as much as 15.5 games in the division.
The Guardians went 14-13 in August before reeling off a 20-7 record in September to steal a division title.
They never led the AL Central by more than one game but had the edge when it mattered, finishing the season at 88-74.
That included a 5-1 showing against the Tigers in the final two weeks of the regular season.
Detroit wound up getting the last laugh in October, though, going into Cleveland and bouncing the Guards in the Wild Card Series.
Blue Jays' John Schneider was clearly the better choice for AL Manager of the Year in 2025
The Blue Jays finished with a 74-88 record in 2024, then finished with a 94-68 record in 2025 for the best record in the American League. (104 wins including the post-season)
When you take a team from last to first in any division in any sport and you're automatically a front-runner for such an honor.
Doing it in the American League East with a roster in flux only adds to those credentials.
Let's no forget the fact that the Blue Jays won the AL East, beat the Yankees in the ALDS, the Mariners in the ALCS and took the All-Star team from Los Angeles to the bottom of the 11th inning in Game 7 of the World Series.
MLB did a poll on their site for fans to vote prior to the BBWAA voting to see what the consensus was amongst baseball fans.
Not just Blue Jays fans, but baseball fans as a whole, voted for John Schneider for AL manager of the year by an overwhelming 60.5% to Stephen Vogt's 20.7% and Dan Wilson's 18.8%. [Poll below]
Who do you think should win AL Manager of the Year?
Obviously the Baseball Writers of America felt differently about who they thought should be AL Manager of the Year. Stephen Vogt received 17 of the 30 first-place votes with John Schneider finishing second with 10.
Blue Jays fans from around the world voice their frustrations with MLB awards voting
As a Blue jays fan I can see why the masses are frustrated, especially having come so close to winning what ended up being a heartbreaking World Series loss.
Surely some Blue Jays would win some awards after such a magical run right?
First it was Ernie Clement, Alejandro Kirk and the Blue Jays as a team getting snubbed for this years Gold Glove awards. (Clement was snubbed in two different categories)
Now John Schneider gets the shaft for ALMOTY. How much more can Blue Jays fans take before they start to wonder what is going on here?
I genuinely wish that I could say I was surprised that Schneider didn't win MOTY. The Blue Jays as a whole are invisible to 90% of the US market. They don't exist. Under-appreciated and unvalued in the regular season awards being the 1 seed in the AL.
Absolutely insane. John Schneider takes the Blue Jays from last to 4 strikes from a WS Championship but loses to a manager that had a good September? Insane.
I don't know what's going on in MLB voting anymore. How was this not a unanimous vote for the Blue Jays' John Schneider? First place in the AL despite multiple star players out for extended periods, while playing in the league's toughest division Just bizarre.
The argument that its before the playoffs that they voted on manager of the year is ridiculous cause even though that is the case, the guardians won 92 games last year, they won 88 this year. The blue jays won 74 games last year, the won 94 this year... John schneider was robbed
Absolutely unbelievable that John Schneider, who took a last place team to game 7 of the World Series, isn't the AL manager of the year.
The MLB & its voters hate the Blue Jays.
