At long last! Donnie Baseball finally gets his chance at a World Series.

The
Blue Jays bench coach had a storied career with the
New York Yankees, where he was a six-time All-Star. the AL MVP in 1985, and winner of nine Gold glove awards.
He later returned to the Bronx as hitting coach and then followed manager Joe Torre to Los Angeles where he held the same position. He eventually ascended to the position of manager, leading the
Dodgers for five years before moving on to the
Miami Marlins, whom he managed for seven years.

After 43 years in the sport, Don Mattingly is finally going to his first World Series 🙌
While he had postseason experiences with all the teams, he never made it to the Fall Classic.
He is getting his long-overdue moment as a member of the Toronto Blue Jays coaching staff, in his third year on the job.
The man who helped take him there revered as a child.
Mattingly was John Schneider's boyhood idol
Blue Jays manager John Schneider grew up in Princeton, New Jersey. It's a town that's about a two hour drive to Yankee Stadium. As a child and budding catcher, his favourite player was New York Yankees first baseman Don Mattingly. Donnie Baseball.
Decades later, Schneider is now managing the Toronto Blue Jays - the only professional franchise he has ever known - with his boyhood idol at his side.
During his numerous postgame speeches and victory celebrations, Schneider kept saying that the whole team, every single has earned this, deserves this.
Perhaps no one more so than Donnie Baseball.
