The Atlanta Braves have signed former Toronto Blue Jays right-handed reliever Sean Reid-Foley.
Per the club's official transactions log, the Braves have signed right-handed pitcher Sean Reid-Foley to a minor league contract.
The Atlanta Braves have signed Sean Reid-Foley to a minor league contract. The pitcher has 760 strikeouts in 656.2 innings pitched throughout his minor league career.
Reid-Foley spent portions of the previous five seasons with the division-rival Mets before finishing the 2025 campaign in the Diamondbacks organization.
The 30-year-old struggled early in 2025, posting a 1-2 record with an 8.36 ERA across 15 relief appearances for Triple-A Syracuse before being released from his minor league deal in May.
He later joined the Diamondbacks, where he appeared in 16 games for the Reno Aces, recording a 0-1 mark and a 5.79 ERA.
Elbow and shoulder injuries have kept Reid-Foley from fully realizing his full potential
From 2021 through 2024, Reid-Foley worked primarily out of the Mets' bullpen, compiling a 3-4 record and a 3.75 ERA in 50 appearances.
His progress was frequently derailed by injuries, including elbow and shoulder issues, most notably a partially torn right ulnar collateral ligament that required surgery in May 2022.
While durability has been a concern, Reid-Foley has flashed considerable upside at the major league level.
Between 2023 and 2024, he logged 29 1/3 innings with a 2.15 ERA, striking out 33.1 percent of opposing hitters and generating a 13.3 percent swinging-strike rate.
Control, however, remained an issue, as he walked more than 16 percent of batters faced during that span.
After walking three straight batters, Sean Reid-Foley gets back-to-back strikeouts to get out of a bases loaded jam!
Overall, he owns a 4.10 ERA across 131 2/3 big league innings, along with a 25.6 percent strikeout rate and a 14.2 percent walk rate.
Reid-Foley was once regarded as one of baseball's top young arms, earning consensus Top-100 prospect status in 2017 while in the Blue Jays ' farm system.
Toronto selected him in the second round of the 2014 MLB Draft out of high school, and he reached the majors by 2018.
During his three seasons with the Blue Jays, Reid-Foley went 5-8 with a 4.40 ERA in 21 appearances, including 13 starts.
He was traded to the Mets in January 2021 alongside Josh Winckowski and Yennsy Diaz as part of the deal that sent Steven Matz to Toronto.
Since then, injuries have largely prevented him from fully realizing his early promise.
