Toronto Blue Jays farm director Joe Sclafani has been encouraged by what he's seen so far from outfield prospect Jake Casey.
The Toronto Blue Jays selected Jake Casey with the 442nd overall pick in the 2025 MLB Draft.
Casey is the son of former MLB first baseman Sean «The Mayor» Casey, now the New York Yankees' hitting coach.
A fourth-year senior at Kent State, Jake heard his name called late in the draft but has wasted little time making an impression since turning pro.

At 6-foot-2 and 190 pounds, Casey owns the classic build teams look for in an outfielder.
He pairs that frame with above-average athleticism and a smooth, left-handed swing reminiscent of his father's approach during his playing days in Detroit and beyond.
Defensively, Casey brings plus arm strength and enough range to handle center field when needed, though his long-term home at the professional level may be in one of the corner outfield spots.
Blue Jays farm director Sclafani has been impressed by the total package
«We're excited about Jake,» Sclafani said. «He can do a lot of things. He's got the tools, the pedigree, and he thinks the game at an advanced level for someone at this stage of his career.»
After reporting to Dunedin shortly following the draft, Casey adjusted quickly to life in the Florida State League.
Through his first 23 professional games, spanning 82 plate appearances, Casey slashed an impressive .281/.449/.574 with three home runs, 14 RBIs, and four stolen bases.

His plate discipline stood out as well, evidenced by a 13 percent walk rate-well above league average-while keeping his strikeout rate to a manageable 20.3 percent.
A 1.023 OPS and a 184 wRC+ further illustrated just how dominant he was in his brief pro debut.
While a 23-game sample size is far too small to draw definitive conclusions, it's an encouraging starting point-and so far, Casey is making the most of his first opportunity in professional baseball.
