Bo Bichette projected to get 8 year deal worth $212 Million
To determine what it will cost the Blue Jays to retain Bichette, you have to look at similar contracts, from similar players with similar production.
For Bichette, Willy Adames' seven-year, $182 million deal with the Giants last winter is a good measuring stick.
While Adames' overall production outstrips Bichette's, but Bo has been a better offensive player, and offense gets paid more than defense.
Bichette (28) is also a year younger than Adames, which could mitigate some of his injury concerns in free agency.
Furthermore, Adames' once sturdy defensive value had plunged heading into free agency, to the point that he, like Bichette, now faces questions about his long-term future at short.
After playing entirely as a shortstop or a designated hitter his entire major league career, Bichette was primarily used as a second baseman during the World Series.
Second base seems like a high possibility for next season, with Andres Gimenez likely to be Toronto's full-time shortstop should that happen.
The best way to look at Bo Bichette's free agency is that the Blue Jays hold a potential tiebreaker. There will be mutual interest. If another team offers an identical deal, Bichette's desire to play in Toronto with Vladdy likely wins. Beyond that, it's free agency. Money wins.
Bichette remains top priority for Blue Jays
After a disappointing 2024 that saw Bichette battle injury and underperformance, he bounced back with a solid regular-season showing in 2025. In 139 games, he slashed .311/.357/.483 with 18 home runs, 94 RBIs and 181 hits.
Bichette ultimately went 8-for-23 in the World Series with six RBIs, carrying a .922 OPS against the Dodgers. After the game seven loss Bichette like the others was a bit emotional.
"I'll remember this group forever," he said post-game. "I think this group taught me what a team is. I think it's probably the most valuable lesson in my career, so they mean a ton to me."
Locking up Bichette to a long-term deal means that the Blue Jays could have their franchise duo in place for a long time, something we have rarely seen in Toronto's history.
