The Blue Jays announced last night that Lukes and his wife welcomed to the world a baby boy by the name of Taylor during their game against
the Atlanta Braves in which he played in.
It was announced this morning that Barger is on his way back to the majors while Lukes is going to spend time with his family as he has been placed on the paternity list.
Many fans thought that Barger should have made the team this season and with players such as
Davis Schneider and
Ernie Clement struggling, if he plays well, he might end up staying in the majors.
It will be interesting to see how Barger ends up playing in his first game back and if he can prove to management that he deserves to stay in the majors for the rest of the season.
Barger went 11-for-30 (.367) in
Grapefruit League action this spring with two doubles, three homers and a 4:10 BB:K. He played well enough to make this team. There's zero debate.
Roster construction kept him off for now, though, as the Blue Jays prioritized outfielders who can play in center.
«With Wagner and with Clement at third base, it turned Addison into more of an outfielder, and then what would the playing time look like?» Schneider said. «We want him to be playing consistently with the strides he has made.»
This leaves the Blue Jays in a great spot with their depth, though, with Barger as an option at any point. He made a great impression in camp and could benefit from
Daulton Varsho's return and a demotion of Davis Schneider to figure things out.
Barger's strikeouts are still a concern hitting .211 with 3 homeruns with an OPS of .738.
Barger crushed a 113.6 MPH home run. 407 FT. Barger is having a good start to the season as he tries to make it back to the Toronto Blue Jays big league club. Needs to keep improving on pitches at the top of the zone, like he did here.
There is also a case to be made for
Jonatan Clase to be called up as he is out playing both Barger and
Joey Loperfido at this point for AAA Buffalo.
While Clase does not have much in the way of power he is a switch-hitter who gets on base and is also an above average defender.
Should Clase have been called up instead of Barger?
