Toronto Blue Jays General Manager Ross Atkins revealed to the media what the clubs trade deadline plans were today at Rogers Centre.
GM Ross Atkins positioned the Blue Jays as a team looking to add before the July 31 trade deadline, during a discussion with media this afternoon, saying the team is "in a strong position" but "we obviously can be better and we'll focus on that."
GM Ross Atkins says Blue Jays will look to add to the team ahead of the trade deadline. Says pitching will be on the Jays' wish list though they could also add a right-handed bat. Jays have the prospects and financial flexibility to consider various upgrades, Atkins said.
Ross Atkins says the #BlueJays have been looking to add a right-handed bat. Pitching depth sounds like another priority ahead of the deadline. He adds that the Jays have had ownership support financially all along and that they should be able to «continue to flex that muscle.»
Asked Ross Atkins if #2 prospect Trey Yesavage could be an option in 2025. He says they're thinking about his development first and that's not their focus right now, but added: «We're not closing doors on contributions from significant impact players in our system.»
As for Arjun Nimmala, if he keeps excelling at Class A Vancouver a promotion to AA seems logical. From there, performance would dictate next steps for the 19-year-old.
