Toronto Blue Jays manager John Schneider revealed Tuesday that Trey Yesavage may not start for a week or so as they manage the young phenoms workload in 2026.

Toronto Blue Jays manager John Schneider said Tuesday that right-hander Trey Yesavage likely won't appear in a Grapefruit League game for about a week as the club carefully manages his workload heading into the 2026 season.
Yesavage, 22, experienced a whirlwind 2025 campaign.
He opened the year with the Dunedin Blue Jays in the Florida Complex League and steadily climbed through every level of Toronto's farm system before earning a September call-up to the majors.
In limited regular-season action, Yesavage impressed. He went 1-0 across three starts, posting a 3.21 ERA over 14 innings while striking out 16 hitters.
He carried that momentum into October, where he played a significant role in Toronto's postseason run.
Over 27 2/3 innings in the American League Division Series, American League Championship Series, and World Series, Yesavage compiled a 3-1 record with a 3.58 ERA and 39 strikeouts.
According to Shi Davidi of Sportsnet, Schneider explained that the club is easing Yesavage into game action this spring after he logged 139.2 innings last season - a sizable jump from the 93.1 innings he threw in 2024.
Trey Yesavage won't pitch in a spring game until next week as Blue Jays manage his buildup after he totalled 139.2 innings last year, after 93.1 in 2024. John Schneider explains their approach with him below:

Blue Jays have a detailed load management plan to keep Yesavage healthy

As noted by Arden Zwelling, Yesavage threw a bullpen session Tuesday and is scheduled to face hitters in a live batting practice for his next mound appearance.
Trey Yesavage is still around a week away from pitching in a Grapefruit League game as the Blue Jays build him up deliberately following a considerable workload jump in 2025. Yesavage is throwing a side session Tuesday and his next mound work is scheduled to be a live BP.
The Blue Jays intend to handle Yesavage's innings carefully throughout the season.
That could mean occasionally skipping a turn in the rotation or pushing back a start, depending on performance metrics and how well he recovers between outings.
For Toronto, the priority is clear: protect the long-term health of a pitcher who could be a cornerstone of the franchise for years to come.
