A few Toronto Blue Jays pitchers were chatting recently when Kevin Gausman pointed out that Paul Skenes, the Pittsburgh Pirates phenom with 36 games under his belt, already has 10 more career starts than Bowden Francis.
"When we want to talk about early struggles or learning the game or understanding your game, understanding what the league is trying to do to you, he has less time than Paul Skenes." -Gausman
«I still think he's going to have a great year. He's just learning the game It's more the learning curve we're seeing than anything else.» - Kevin Gausman
Even veteran pitcher Chris Bassitt has his own to say about the situation stating that he believes Francis will still have a great season he is still learning a lot and that always takes time.
«I still think he's going to have a great year. He's just learning the game, learning how to prep before a game, what to look for, his zones to put his pitches in. It's more the learning curve we're seeing than anything else.»
«There are always tons of peaks and valleys, and I feel like there's value in the valleys. It's frustrating. But I keep learning from these kinds of outings. Hopefully they don't last long, but just keep posting, keep working between the starts, try to find a way.» - Bowden Francis
Jeff Blair & Kevin Barker share their thoughts on Bowden Francis's struggles
"In the 13 starts, it's been the same thing over and over again... It's a pretty big sample size of not getting it done."
While Francis has definitely shown signs of greatness as a starting pitcher in the MLB, mostly last season when he had an incredible second half of the season, it is because of that the Blue Jays are still so high of him.
Francis is probably happy that his two teammates are defending him in the media after another brutal loss but at the same time, something needs to give and turn around at some point.
Do you think that Kevin Gausman and Chris Bassitt are right?
