Pop was the last of the three to meet his fate. Earlier in the week it was announced that Nance had cleared waivers and been outrighted to Triple-A Buffalo. Later, the Blue Jays traded Robertson to the Astros for Edinson Batista.
While Nance had accepted an outright assignment, it is possible that Pop refused one after clearing waivers, which is why the Jays ultimately released him.
Pop first came to the Blue Jays along with Anthony Bass and Edward Duran in a 2022 trade that sent Jordan Groshans to the Marlins While he had some success after joining the team, garnering a 1.89 ERA in 17 games, he struggled to find consistency over the next two years.
In three seasons with Toronto, he is 5-5 with a 4.89 ERA and one save in 90 games. He had slightly better numbers during his two seasons in Miami.
Originally drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers, Pop was traded to the Orioles before being selected as a Rule 5 pick in 2020 by the Diamondbacks. They then flipped him to the Marlins.
The Blue Jays will most likely be looking to improve their pitching staff with upcoming trades or call ups in the near future.
