Sportnet's Ben Nicholson-Smith reported that John Schneider remains positive that Springer is progressing well and nearing a return, hoping to avoid a stint on the injured list.
John Schneider says George Springer continues progressing and that the hope from Springer and the team remains that he can avoid the IL.
The Athletics Mitch Bannon reiterated what Ben Nicholson-Smith reported.
George Springer is progressing well, John Schneider said. The Blue Jays hope he can avoid the IL, but will have to see how he feels again tomorrow.
George Springer's injury head injury comes at an awful time for the Blue Jays
concussions can be a very volatile injury to recover from, and predicting a timeline for a return to play comes with a lot of variables.
Sometimes players can quickly recover from head injuries and return after a week or two.
In other cases, it can take weeks, months, or sometimes even longer before a player can return to the field, and coming back too early comes with significant risks.
With that in mind, the Blue Jays can't and won't push Springer to return to the lineup until he's ready, and it's hard to say when that will be.
By the sounds of what Blue Jays manager John Schneider is saying, it looks like they're trying to avoid a stint on the injured list as Springer still remains day to day.
The Blue Jays are already missing All-Star catcher Alejandro Kirk, who is on the seven-day concussion injured list, but trending toward a weekend return.
Springer is enjoying a renaissance season, batting .291 with 18 homers and an .889 OPS.
