Bo Bichette, major league's hits leader, is still not cleared to return.

The Blue Jays shortstop, who has been out since Sept 7th with a left knee sprain, is still uncertain for the first round of the playoffs. Having a first bye now takes on extra importance for Toronto.
While Bo has continued to ramp up his hitting and has been able to throw a baseball, he still hasn't been given the clear to start running.
Bo Bichette continues swinging and has begun throwing a bit but timeline for a running progression still unclear. Jays hopeful Bichette will be able to return to the lineup during playoffs - the question is when and in what capacity.
Bichette leads the majors with 181 hits, despite having not played a game in nearly three weeks. 2025 had served as a nice bounce back season following his injury-plagued 2024.

Bichette at DH could complicate an already crowded outfield picture

Ideally, the Blue Jays and manager John Schneider would like to wait until Bo is 100% healthy and can go back to being short stop. The Jays have capable shortstops should Bo need a day as DH, but with both Anthony Santander and George Springer receiving the bulk of designated hitter appearances, it could further complicate playing time for many deserving youngsters.
If the Blue Jays are able to stave of the New York Yankees and hang onto first place and secure a bye, it would by them and Bichette at least another week. However, if Toronto ends up playing in the Wild Card series, there's a good chance they will do so without their catalyst.
