Blue Jays outright Richard Lovelady

Much like
Tommy Nance earlier week, this likely means that Lovelady passed through the outright waiver wire without being claimed. While he is off the 40-man roster for now, sending him outright to Buffalo allows the Blue Jays to keep him in the organization as a depth piece.
Lovelady had been designated for assignment on Sunday following a disastrous appearance in relief of Max Scherzer on Saturday. In that game, Lovelady gave up four earned runs as well as hitting two batters and walking another in just one inning of work.
Mason Fluharty took his place on both the active and 40 man rosters.
Lovelady's biggest problem has been his lack of control. In addition to Saturday's game, he pitched 0.2 innings on opening day, walking one and hitting one. While he also collected three strikeouts over the two games, his wildness and inconsistency were enough for the Jays to remove him from the roster.
It hasn't only been Toronto though. Lovelady has also struggled in stints with Kansas City as well as the Cubs, though he fared in brief stints with the Athletics and Rays.
Still, left-handed depth can be hard to come by and, given the cost, Lovelady could be a cheap option down the road, if he is able to work through his control problems.
Hopefully, being in Buffalo will take some of the pressure off.
For his career Lovelady is 5-13, with a 5.26 ERA and 93 strikeouts in 101 innings across 110 games.
