MLB fans should have a pool going on whether Jesse Chavez will re-sign with the Atlanta Braves. Although the 18-year veteran is now a free agent after rejecting an outright assignment following his DFA by the Braves, he has been signed to four separate contracts in the last four years by Atlanta.

The 41 year old had been designated for assignment on Tuesday, after appearing in a single game for the Braves. As he threw 41 pitches, he would not have been available for a few days and, as the Braves needed arms, Chavez got squeezed out of a roster spot.
Given his history and recent association with Atlanta however, this may just be a temporary solution. Many vets choose to get reject outright assignments and re-sign on minor league deals as a way to have the advantage in opt-out situations. It happened recently with Buddy Kennedy and the Philadelphia Phillies.
Part of the reason Chavez keeps coming back to the organization is because of the success he has had there. Throughout his career in Atlanta, he has pitched 186.2 innings while maintaining an ERA of 2.56. Out of all the teams he has played for, those are by far his best numbers.
Besides Atlanta, Chavez has also spent time with the White Sox, Rangers, Angels, and Cubs in recent years, although some were just Spring Training stints. He also suited up for the Blue Jays on two separate occasions.
If he does re-sign with Atlanta, it will probably relatively quickly, as the Braves would not want to risk losing him to another team.
Chavez is in his 18th major league season.
