While the Toronto Blue Jays may be leading the AL East, they are not winning when it comes to the size of their crowds. Attendance at a recent three-game series against the Nationals was the lowest it's been since 2022.

While attendance on opening weekend was strong as per usual, it took a noticeable dip starting on Monday. The crowd size for that night's game against Washington was estimated to be 20,137. It was slightly smaller on Wednesday, with the number coming in at 20,104.
Those two games represent the smallest crowds since John Schneider took over as manager. Those two contests represented the lowest-recorded attendance for a Jays game at the Rogers Centre since the 20,468 tally on April 27, 2022, back when Charlie Montoyo was the manager.
It's unfortunate as the 5-2 Blue Jays are off to their best start since 2011. While there are no doubt a number of factors at play, the failure to sign Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to a long-term extension, as well as the sting of last season and low expectations heading into the year, are undoubtedly playing a role.
At the same time, ticket sales in April are always a tough go. Plus, there are now a lot more day games during the week, which makes a difficult for a lot of Torontonians to attend, in spite of the Jays' WorkFromDome promotion.
The weather also hasn't been doing fans any favours, as Toronto has been caked in snow the last couple of days. Still the fact that crowds were less than a September game last year when the Jays were already on their way to last place speaks volumes,
That attendance breaks the Jays nearly three-year run of being one of the top draws in the American League.
Hopefully things improve as the season goes on.
