When the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Washington Nationals on Monday to move to 3-2 on the season, it was their first time being above .500. since April 24, 2024. Two games later, they are 5-2 and are off to their best start in 14 years, sitting atop the AL East standings one week into the season.

Yes, it's early. It's only April 3rd. There is still a lot of baseball to go; another 155 games to played by the Blue Jays. And yet, there is an air of positivity around this club, which had very low expectations amongst the fan, that feels different this around.
Yes, it hasn't been perfect. Max Scherzer landed on the IL three innings into his Blue Jays career, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is still searching for his first home run, and Richard Lovelady imploded leading to his DFA by the team.
But the positives are numerous too. Andres Gimenez has been a revelation with the bat, and George Springer looks to be rejuvenated after a down year last season. Plus the rookies are holding their own. Easton Lucas has, at least for one start, become a saviour in the rotation.
It's obviously too early to know whether or not the Blue Jays will keep this up for an entire season. But considering that most projections had them finishing fourth or fifth in baseball's most competitive division, this early success has to be seen as a positive.
The key has been getting contributions from everyone, not just the stars. Players like Tyler Heineman, Myles Straw, Nathan Lukes, and Ernie Clement, all understand their roles on the team and have all done their jobs that they've needed to do.
If the Jays start to falter then the conversation will obviously change. But for now, fans can revel in the fact that this team may be better then we all think.
