Former Toronto Blue Jays manager John Gibbons is the new bench coach for the Los Angeles Angels

After stepping down as bench coach of the New York Mets, Gibby is moving into the same position with a new team.
The Angels also announced that former big league outfielder Adam Eaton will be the team's new first base coach under rookie manager Kurt Suzuki

, the #Angels have hired former Blue Jays manager & Mets bench coach, John Gibbons as their new bench coach.

The Halos have also hired former Halo, Adam Eaton, as their 1B coach, he will be the teams outfield instructor.

How are we feeling?
Before being hired on by the Halos, there was talk that Gibbons was consideration for the Atlanta Braves managerial opening; that team is run by former Blue Jays GM Alex Anthopoulos.
However, Atlanta ended up hiring former shortstop Walt Weiss, who had been serving as bench coach under Brian Snitker for the past eight seasons.
Gibbons managed the Blue Jays for 11 years across two stints. While his first four seasons were largely unmemorable, he became a legend and franchise icon during his second stint, in large part thanks to the team breaking their 22 year playoff drought with their iconic post season run in 2015.

Gibbons has spent decades in baseball

In addition to his time spent managing the Blue Jays, Gibbons has also coached at the major league level for the Kansas City Royals, in addition to the Mets. Before he was manager, he also served as bullpen catcher and then first base coach with Toronto.
He also spent several coaching in the minor leagues for both the Padres and Mets after his brief playing career - also with New York - came to an end.
2026 will be Gibbons' 19th season as a major league coach.
