The Toronto Blue Jays edged the Philadelphia Phillies 5-4 on Sunday in a back-and-forth game filled with home runs and lead changes.
The teams combined for five homers at TD Ballpark.
The action started early, with Daulton Varsho blasting a solo shot in the first - his second homer in as many games - after Bo Bichette singled and was caught stealing.
The Phillies tied it in the second on a Kody Clemens solo homer.
History repeated itself in the third when Steward Berroa singled and was thrown out trying to steal second, only for Bichette to follow with a solo home run down the left-field line.
Bowden Francis took over in the fourth and gave up a single to Clemens followed by a two-run homer to Gabriel Rincones Jr., giving the Phillies a brief lead. Berroa tied the game again with a solo shot in the fifth, but Rafael Marchan's RBI double in the sixth put the Phillies back in front.
Max Scherzer continued his strong spring, allowing just one run over 3.2 innings while striking out four. Tommy Nance recorded the final out of the fourth. Francis, who pitched the fifth and sixth, was charged with three runs, raising his spring ERA to 9.00 in what's been a bumpy camp for the Jays' fifth starter.
Minor leaguer Alex Amalfi worked around a hit and walk in the seventh before Yimi Garcia and Chad Green closed things out to seal the win.
The Blue Jays continue Grapefruit League play Monday against the Detroit Tigers.
