The announcement was made by manager John Schneider as part of a pre-game press conference ahead of the opening game of Toronto's ALDS Series against the New York Yankees.
It was also announced that veteran Shane Bieber will take the mound in Game 3 vat Yankee Stadium.
Swapping the order of Yesavage and Bieber makes sense. Schneider felt that starting the rookie pitcher on home turf at Rogers Centre would help ease the pressure for the 22 year old.
The veteran Bieber will start Game 3 at Yankee Stadium, giving Yesavage a break from the fishbowl New York media as the team eases him into bigger moments.
Bassitt not 100%, Scherzer stumbled in September
It was originally thought that Chris Bassitt might start game 3, but as he is coming off an injury, Schneider and the Blue Jays didn't want to take any chances and instead chose to rest him for a potential ALCS.
Future Hall-of-Famer Max Scherzer seemingly pitched himself out of a postseason with back-to-back ineffective starts in September.
It is unknown whether Scherzer will be considered for a potential ALCS.
