With the winter meetings underway, all eyes will be on the Blue Jays after their signings of Dylan Cease and Cody Ponce. While they are likely to make more deals, the biggest underlying question for them is whether they will re-sign star shortstop Bo Bichette.
Now, a division rival is swooping in.
The Boston Red Sox have met with Bichette via zoom, reports Ari Alexander of 7 News Boston. It was already known that Bichette was on the Red Sox radar as they look to upgrade offensively.
SS Bo Bichette and the #RedSox had a zoom recently, sources tell @7News .
It went well on both sides, per sources.
Bichette came away impressed with the Red Sox, I'm told. The Red Sox have shown to be serious about the free agent.
Red Sox' chief baseball officer Craig Breslow, reiterated his desire for a slugger.
Home runs are a foolproof way to put runs on the board. Typically, that type of profile comes with a tradeoff, most often contact ability, which is another area that we feel like we need to improve the identity of the offence
Bo has always maintained that he wants to remain a Blue Jay, so fans should't necessarily read too much into his meeting his Boston.
Still, it has to be somewhat concerning that there hasn't been much talk from the Blue Jays camp about Bo.
Boston has also met with Alonso, has interest in Schwarber
Bichette isn't the only player of interest to Boston of course. In addition to Bo, they have reportedly met with Pete Alonso and have shown interest in free agent Kyle Schwarber.
