Case in point, the New York Mets, who on Monday announced that they had signed free agent reliever Carl Edwards Jr. to a minor league contract. The deal also comes with an invite to Spring Training.
Edwards, 34, spent most of 2025 playing in the Mexican League, though he did see time with both the Los Angeles Angels and Texas Rangers, appearing in two games for each.
The Mets have agreed to a minor league deal with Carl Edwards Jr.
The right-hander, who was initially a 48th round pick by Texas in 2011 has appeared in 300 games across parts of 10 seasons and has suited for eight teams. The Mets will be his ninth.
His most successful stint came with the Chicago Cubs.
He spent 4.5 seasons with the north siders and was part of their World Series-winning roster in 2016.
