Former Blue Jays reliever DFA'd by Angels

The Los Angeles Angels have designated relief pitcher Carl Edwards Jr. for assignment. In corresponding moves, fellow right-hander Jose Fermin had his contract selected from Triple-A while left-hander Jake Eder was recalled. Fellow righty Victor Mederos was also optioned to Triple-A.
Edwards' signed a minor league contract with the Angels in late March, 10 days after initially agreeing to a deal in the Mexican League.
Given his late signing, he was only selected to the Angels roster on Wednesday, allowing three earned runs over three innings and two appearances.
If he clears waivers, Edwards could choose to accept an outright assignment, or reject it in favour of free agency. He has enough MLB service time to choose the second option, having appeared in parts of 11 major league seasons.
Edwards was originally drafted in the 48th round of the 2011 draft by the Texas Rangers and he has pretty much bounced around since then, suiting up for seven teams, including a brief, six game stint with the Blue Jays in 2021.
His most successful time in a major league uniform, came during his years with the Chicago Cubs, when he went 9-8 with a 3.30 ERA and two saves in 192 games across five seasons.
His years with Chicago account for over half of all his big league appearances, having just 106 combined with the six other teams.
It's still early enough in the season for Edwards to latch on with another team, should he go the free agent route. Many teams will be looking for depth pieces throughout the year and Edwards can provide that.
He has shown flashes of success through his career, he just needs to find consistency. Perhaps another team will give him that.
