Capra, 29, has been a good minor league performer in his career but hasn't really had a chance to carve out a major league career.
He has appeared in each of the four most recent major league seasons but has only been sent up to the plate 142 times over those campaigns.
The Boston Red Sox signed 3B Vinny Capra to a minor league contract.
Capra will look to improve on what has been an underwhelming big league career so far
A former 20th-round draft choice, Capra had made 24 appearances with the Brewers earlier in the season.
This year's 105 plate appearances are easily a career high, but the righty hitter has stumbled to a .133/.157/.177 line with just one home run, his first MLB home run which came in his first at-bat of the season.
After nearly 2,000 plate appearances in the Minors, Vinny Capra made his first big league Opening Day count.
Capra landed with the White Sox on a mid-May waiver claim from Milwaukee. The out-of-options infielder spent nearly two months on Will Venable's bench.
He hit .190 with a .205 on-base percentage in 23 games. Capra was the hitter who went down looking for Clayton Kershaw's 3000th career strikeout.

He went 0-3 in that contest and did not make another appearance before being DFA.
Now with the Red Sox, he will look to improve on those numbers and try to make it back to the show.
