We're only three days into Spring Training, but the Blue Jays may already be getting a glimpse of their future.
While much of the prospect buzz has centered around Alan Roden and Orelvis Martinez, another name has quietly been getting significant playing time: Riley Tirotta
Despite not being on the 40-man roster, he could force his way into consideration with a strong spring, especially with a few roster spots still up for grabs before Opening Day.
Beyond Vladimir Guerrero Jr., the only other players on the 40 man roster with first base experience are Will Wagner and Anthony Santander Among the non-roster invitees (NRIs), Tirotta and Rainer Núñez are the only first basemen in camp. While Núñez possesses more raw power, Tirotta still managed to hit 15 home runs across multiple minor league levels last season.
Although he isn't discussed in the same breath as Roden, Martinez, or Josh Kasevich, his steady production across all minor league levels suggests he could be closer to the majors than many realize.
Over four minor league seasons, Tirotta has posted a .243 batting average, .361 OBP, 34 home runs, 161 RBIs, and 43 stolen bases in 310 games. If he continues to impress, his opportunity could come sooner rather than later.
