At the beginning of the season, if someone had said that Daulton Varsho would be leading the Blue Jays in home runs, there probably would have been a healthy does of skepticism in that statement. The fact that Varsho would be doing it after only playing 13 games, and there would be plenty of surprise.

But that's exactly what is happening right now. Since returning from the injured list following offseason rotator cuff surgery, Varsho has been tearing the cover off the baseball. While his average is only .229 and his OBP is a paltry .264, Varsho has a team-leading six home runs, along with 13 RBIs.
Varsho is entering his third full-season with the Blue Jays. While he was acquired for his superior defence, which culminated in a Gold Glove last year in centre field, he had struggled to retain the power numbers he put up with the Arizona Diamondbacks.
In 2022, his breakthrough season with Arizona, Varsho hit 27 home runs and had 74 RBIs. In his first two years with Toronto, he hit 20 and 18 home runs respectively, while also seeing a dip in average.
Now, it appears that Varsho has turned a corner with the bat.
If Varsho can continue the pace he's at, he will be one of the most valuable players on the Blue Jays and one of the most elite players in the league. In 2024, Varsho had a WAR of 5.0. If he can pair his elite glove with some added power, that figure could reach as a high as 7, which would put him into borderline-elite territory.
Catching, hitting, Daulton Varsho can do it all.
