It has been said, and often proven, that when you're hot, you're hot and right now, the Toronto Blue Jays are the hottest team in baseball.

Nothing seems to rattle this team at this particular moment, a time in which the Blue Jays have improved their record to 38-30 following Wednesday's 5-2 win and a three-game sweep against the host St. Louis Cardinals.
Despite injuries to two of their most important position players and question marks in two of their five rotation spots, they've won 12 of their last 14 games.
Toronto has gone 6-0 during its nine-game road trip that winds down this weekend in Philadelphia.

The Blue Jays are winning with the longball and can also manufacture runs

The team's pitching is walking a delicate balance, but it's been working.
There are three takeaways from an afternoon at Busch Stadium where veteran right-hander Spencer Turnbull made his Blue Jays debut, striking out two and surrendering two hits in two scoreless innings, a day when Yariel Rodriguez pitched a hitless ninth to pick up the save, his first in the big leagues.
Turnbull's fastball averaged 90.8 m.p.h., a little higher than his recent triple-A results but a little lower than the 92 m.p.h. he averaged with the Phillies before a lat injury sidelined him last summer.
All things considered, it was a step forward for Turnbull, who could be used as a reliever or a starter moving forward.
«I thought he was good,» Schneider said. «Strike thrower and he has pretty good feel of what he wants to do, so it was nice to get him out there, see him in our uni and we look forward to more of that.»

The return of the home run to the Jays' offensive arsenal is one of the main reasons why they've been able to go on a run that has led to five straight series wins, However every so often, small ball is in vogue.
Witness the top of the fourth inning, which began with the teams locked in a 2-2 tie.
Blue Jays' Myles Straw reached base on a bunt single, Jonatan Clase then walked, moving Straw to second base, Tyler Heineman would then execute a sac bunt to advance the runners, a Bo Bichette sac fly would give the Jays a 3-2 lead.
After Vladimir Guerrero Jr. knocked in Clase to extend Toronto's lead, Vlad Jr. stole second, It was his second base swipe of the season.
There was nothing exotic or appealing in how the Blue Jays manufactured two runs, but there was something very reminiscent of the days when teams didn't have to rely on the longball.
The complete offensive effort stood out to Ernie Clement, who likes that the Blue Jays can score in different ways depending on the demands of the game.
«The small-ball aspect of the bottom of our lineup is so fun,» Clement said. «It's lost in today's game a little bit, but one through nine, we know our role and know what we do well.»

«Every time we get punched in the mouth, we punch right back,» Clement said. «This is the most fun we've had as a group.»
While not a closer, Yariel Rodriguez was extremely impactful out of the Blue Jays bullpen. He posted a miniscule 0.53 ERA and 0.53 WHIP across 17 IP.
Rodriguez threw the fastest pitch of his career on Wednesday 99.6 mph and earned his first MLB career save.
All this without two of the Blue Jays biggest off season acquisitions in Max Scherzer and Anthony Santander.
When they get back, plus Nick Sandlin in a week or so, and a healthy Alek Manoah in August, the Blue Jays will be cookin with gas.
Thursday marks an off day for the Blue Jays, who will resume play Friday night in Philadelphia for a three-game series.
Toronto is scheduled to start Kevin Gausman in the opener followed by Francis and Jose Berrios.
In the last series the Blue Jays took two of three from the Phillies at Rogers Centre, including the final two games when the Toronto held Philadelphia to a combined two runs.
Are you happy that the Blue Jays are manufacturing runs with small ball and aren't strictly relying on home runs to provide the offense they need to win games?
