Ryan Noda's continued struggles has left him without a roster spot.
After being designated for assignment by the Baltimore Orioles last week, it has been announced that the 1st baseman has cleared waivers and has been outrighted off the 40 man roster.
Given their recent signing of Pete Alonso, it makes sense that Noda would get squeezed out of a job.
The Orioles had claimed Noda off the waivers from the Chicago White Sox in August.
Orioles Outright Ryan Noda
While Noda has always been a decent defender, his relative lack of power for his position, combined with a nearly 35% strikeout rate has made it difficult for him to stick on a major league roster.
Noda was originally a 15th round pick by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 2017 Major League Draft. After spending three years in A-Ball, he was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers as the player to named later in the deal that saw Ross Stripling come to Toronto.
After a couple of seasons in the Dodgers system he was selected by the Oakland Athletics in 2022 Rule 5 draft and made his major league debut with the team the following March.
He had a decent rookie season, appearing in 138 games with 16 home runs and 54 RBIs, finishing tops in many offensive categories for the teams.
However, he was unable to replicate that success and was claimed off waivers by the Los Angeles after a rough start in 2024.
Noda could still fight for a bench role
Although Noda has been removed from the 40-man roster, he is still in the Orioles organization and could conceivably fight for a job during Spring Training.
