Former Blue Jays left-hander DFA'd by Guardians days after being traded

The left-hander, who was traded to Cleveland Guardians on Wednesday after being designated for assignment by the Toronto Blue Jays one day prior, has now been DFA'd by his new team.

Shortly after acquiring Bruihl for cash, Cleveland announced the signing of right-handed pitcher Shawn Armstrong. Given that the 40-man roster was full, a corresponding move needed to be made and Bruihl found himself squeezed off the roster.

The Blue Jays had DFA'd Bruihl after their signing of submariner Tyler Rogers became official.

It's been a rough offseason for Bruihl, who made one appearance in the American League Championship Series, but was left off both the ALDS and World Series. He got roughed up for three runs and did not pitch again.

If the Guardians are unable to find any takers for Bruihl's services, it's possible that he gets outrighted and sticks with the organization.

He has pitched in parts of five seasons, most notably with the Los Angeles Dodgers and also having brief stints with Pittsburgh and Colorado.

While with the Blue Jays, Bruihl underwent something of an arsenal change. Where in the past he had relied on his cut fastball, pitching coach Pete Walker and his team had Bruihl focus more on his sinker.

Bruihl ended up posting the best strikeout numbers of his career.
