The Miami Marlins announced the outfielder Griffin Conine will miss the remainder of the 2025 Major League Baseball season after undergoing shoulder surgery on Tuesday.
It's another setback for a player who was once a very promising prospects. Still, at just 26, Conine still has time to make an impression.
While a firm timetable for his return has not been established, it does appear that he will be ready in time for Spring Training in 2026.
Conine first injured his shoulder last week after sliding into second base. He was removed from the game and immediately placed on the 60-Day IL.
Griffin is the son of franchise icon Jeff Conine - aka Mr. Marlin, a longtime player who won a World Series in 1997 and 2003.
Conine was drafted in the second round by
the Toronto Blue Jays in 2018 and was suspended for a banned substance that November. He was later traded to the Marlins - his father Jeff's longtime team - in exchange for utility infielder Jonathan Villar.
A late bloomer, Conine finally made his major league debut as a late-season call-up in August of last year. He fared decently, hitting .268 .326. 451 with three home runs and 12 RBIs in 30 games. He was even better through 20 games this season, going 281/.352/.438 with one home run and seven RBIs.
