Former Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Vernon Wells was not pleased with John Schneiders early decision to pull Shane Bieber with a bullpen game looming in Game 4.

John Schneider wasn't wasting any time in calling upon his bullpen on Tuesday night.
After the Toronto Blue Jays broke out to a 6-1 lead in the third inning of Game 3's loss to the New York Yankees in the ALDS, starter Shane Bieber ran into some trouble in his second time through the lineup.
Facing the top of the Yankees' order, Bieber allowed back-to-back doubles from Trent Grisham and Aaron Judge, a single from Cody Bellinger and a sacrifice fly to Giancarlo Stanton.
While he did induce a fielder's choice groundout from Ben Rice, the Blue Jays' top trade deadline acquisition walked Jazz Chisholm Jr. to bring the tying run to the plate with two out.
That's when Schneider took the ball from the former Cy Young winner in favor of left-hander Mason Fluharty with Ryan McMahon coming to the plate.
Ultimately, with a bullpen game on tap for Wednesday's Game 4, Schneider opted to be aggressive in deploying his relief corps with the Blue Jays up 6-3 and one win away from the ALCS.
Bieber's final line read 2.2 innings of work, five hits, three runs (two earned), one walk and two strikeouts.

Former Blue Jays All-Star Vernon Wells voices his displeasure with John Schneiders early decision to pull Shane Bieber

Former Blue Jays All-Star Vernon Wells shared his thoughts on John Schneider's decision to pull Shane Bieber after 53 pitches in Game 3 vs. Yankees, and he didn't sound pleased with Blue Jays manager John Schneider's decision.
You don't take Shane out with 53 pitches with Game 4 being a bullpen game.

Why go out and trade for him if you can't trust that he can get himself out of trouble? You go out and instill confidence then let Shane be Shane. That was my immediate opinion but other things led to that loss. - Vernon Wells
Vernon Wells spent 12 years in the Blue Jays organization, and while the end of his tenure in Toronto soured a bit, there's no taking away his contributions to the team during the 2000s.
He ranks second in franchise hits (1,529), fourth in home runs (223) and fifth in fWAR (24.8).
He was also a three-time All-Star and Gold Glove winner, and a Silver Slugger winner in 2003.
Unfortunately, Wells never tasted the postseason during his time with the Blue Jays, but he authored several signature moments, including one of his best: a walk-off home run off Mariano Rivera on July 20, 2006.
