Canada aiming to move past group stage for the first time

Calgary, Alberta's Mike Soroka, formerly of the Atlanta Braves and currently with the Arizona Diamondbacks, picked up the win, after giving up four hits and one run in three innings.
Team Canada was helped by a strong performance from Abraham Toro, who went 2-3 with a double, triple, two RBIs and two runs scored, as well as starting left fielder Owen Caissie, who opened the scoring with a two run home run in the second inning.

Canada also got RBIs from Denzel Clarke, Bo Naylor, Josh Naylor, and Tyler O'Neill.
Former Blue Jays shortstop Otto Lopez ended the game 0-3.
Team Colombia also fielded a couple of former Jays with Gio Urshela starting the game at 3rd base, while Harold Ramirez roamed left field.
Although Canada has competed in every World Baseball Classic since the tournament began in 2006, they have never advanced past the group stage. 2026 might be their best change yet.
With a victory against Colombia, they are off to a good start.
