Former Blue Jays reliever once again DFA'd by Braves

It could quickly become a running joke amongst baseball insiders as to who will be DFA'd more this season, Casey Lawrence or Jesse Chavez. Earlier on Sunday, Lawrence was DFA'd for third time by the Mariners. Not to be outdone, the Atlanta Braves announced that they have designated Jesse Chavez for assignment.
It is Chavez' fourth time being DFA'd this season, which is his sixth with the Braves. The move makes room for right-hander
Davis Daniel who has been recalled from the minor leagues.
Chavez, who is in his 18th big league season, made just one appearance in his latest go-round for the Braves, surrendering one run on two hits and a walk while striking out two in an inning of work against the Diamondbacks.
Overall this season, he has an 6.00 ERA in three innings at the big league level for Atlanta this year,
As has happened several other times already this season, look for the Braves and Chavez to continue this relationship and for Chavez to remain with the team on a minor leage contract.
The Braves technically have one week to complete a transaction for Chavez, but it would very surprising if the right-hander doesn't reject the outright assignment, become a free agent, re-sign with the team, within the next 48 hours. Atlanta probably already has the contract drafted.
Taking Chavez' place on the roster is Daniel, a right-hander who was acquired from the Angels back in September. A seventh round pick by Los Angeles in 2019, he made his debut in 2023.
Much like Chavez, Daniel can give the Braves length, with six oof his nine big league appearances having been starts. Overall, for his career, Daniel is 2-5 with a 5.06 ERA.
