Former Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Max Scherzer expressed his thoughts in an interview on unfinished business north of the border.

Free agent pitcher Max Scherzer joined the Leafs Morning Take Podcast on Tuesday to discuss his thoughts on the crushing World Series defeat, bringing back the core of the team, and unfinished business in Toronto.
And when you listen to him talk yesterday, you hear someone who really doesn't seem to want to leave Toronto.

Max Scherzer talks about unfinished business in Toronto

Jay Rosehill straight-up asked Max Scherzer if there's unfinished business in Toronto. He sure said WE and OUR a lot. Did he tip his hand?
"For us the way we look at it, usually when you have a crushing defeat like that, there is kind of like a GOAT someone that you want to turn to. In our clubhouse we don't feel like that one bit. I want everybody in that same exact situation playing the exact same ball. It is kind of weird to have that happen where you have such a gut wrenching loss and yet you have the whole team saying no we don't have a problem we want go back out there. We are actually proud of the way we played, the baseball gods got it wrong, we did everything right in a lot of different ways."
"So ya that notion that here is some unfinished business, ya we know that we are a championship caliber team and we want to do that but baseball is funny you understand the business of this, the team is not going to look the exact same. You know free agent signings and guys traded, is the way the game operates. From our standpoint we just want to get everybody back, we want to gets as many guys as we can back so because we just know the clubhouse works, we knmow how well we play together. It's such a good thing we had in 2025 and we want to do it in 2026."

What's clear is that Scherzer still talks about the Blue Jays as if he were a member of the organization. And he isn't. He could sign with anyone at any time.
He explains that «from our point of view, we hope everyone will be back next year». No, that doesn't exactly sound like a guy who wants to get on the first plane to a new destination.
At 41, Scherzer became the oldest pitcher to start a Game 7 of the World Series.
In three postseason starts, Scherzer allowed a total of six earned runs, turning in a 3.77 ERA.
While the Blue Jays ultimately fell to the Dodgers in extra innings in heartbreaking fashion, Scherzer was solid that night, allowing just one earned run in 4.1 innings and leaving the game with a lead.
Scherzer said in the aftermath of the World Series loss, he feels like there's more gas in his tank for what would be a 19th season in the major leagues in 2026.
